Smitten® Stewed Apples with Oatmeal Crumble

INGREDIENTS

  • Smitten® Stewed Apples
  • 7 Smitten® Apples, peeled and roughly diced
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Juice from half lemon
  • Pinch salt
  • Oatmeal Crumble
  • 3/4 cup wholemeal spelt flour
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, diced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

METHOD

Smitten® Stewed Apples

  • Place all ingredients in a saucepan and cook on low heat till it comes it comes to a simmer
  • Reduce heat and cook for approx. 15 minutes. If you prefer your apples to be a bit softer, cook them for a bit longer

Oatmeal Crumble

  • Place all ingredients in a bowl and combine with fingers to form a crumble like texture

To Finish

  • To finish the dish, place the stewed apples in an oven safe dish and top with the oatmeal crumble, cook in a moderate oven (180 degrees Celsius) for 15-20 minutes
  • Serve with creamy vanilla ice cream
