Supporting the Community
With people firmly at their core, Montague has taken a vow to support Australians in need.
Through the sponsorship of local communities, the donation of fresh produce to Food Bank Australia and an 8-year relationship with national food rescue organisation SecondBite, Montague strives to aid under-privileged Australians facing hunger.
Encouraging employees to participate in the Melbourne Run for the Kids and Movember, as well as launching employee health and wellbeing program ‘Healthy Me,’ Montague also endeavours to relieve physical and mental health issues in the workplace.
Find out how you can get involved in Montague’s initiatives and make an impact on the lives of those doing it tough.
SecondBite exists to combat the increasing level of national hunger. Through the redistribution of nutritious surplus food to under-privileged communities, the organisation has embarked on a plight to end food insecurity in Australia.
To date, SecondBite have redistributed 32,359,427 kilograms of surplus fresh food across the country, equating to over an astounding 64,000,000 meals.
In April 2017, Montague, together with the Jazz™ growers of Australia, took a pledge to donate one million apples to SecondBite for redistribution. These apples were donated to third party community groups such as the Salvation Army, Uniting Care and underprivileged primary schools, and marked Montague’s largest donation of produce since its establishment in 1948.
Between 17 April and 24 April 2017, Montague and Coles donated a combined 20c per kilogram of Jazz™ Apples purchased from Coles Supermarkets nationally to SecondBite. The program sought to reduce the devastating statistic of 731,300 children under the age of 15 living below the poverty line.
As Australia’s largest food rescue organisation, Foodbank provides an astonishing 60 million meals a year to more than 2400 charities across the country. This amounts to 75% of all the food distributed to charities by food relief organisations in Australia.
We are regular donators to Food Bank Australia, who collect fresh product to distribute to over 2,500 charities and community groups.
We sponsor local football and netball teams in regional areas where our employees are located (Batlow, Swan Hill, Allansford and Berwick).
Each year, our employees are encouraged to participate in the Run for the Kids in Melbourne or Movember to raise awareness and funds for serious causes.
In 2010, we introduced “Healthy Me” – an employee health and wellbeing program the focuses on physical and mental health in the workplace and in 2011, were finalists in the Victorian WorkSafe Health and Wellbeing Awards.
Employees receive information on mental health, quit smoking aides, healthy recipes, monthly massages and, in Queensland and Narre Warren North, we offer purpose built gyms with access to a personal trainer.
Sound environmental management is an integral part of our daily practices ensuring we reduce our overall energy consumption and follow responsible use and choice of resources wherever possible – including both natural or man-made products.
In March 2019, JAZZ™ Apple will be the Major Sponsor of The Hunger Ride, Foodbank’s 1-day corporate cycling challenge in North East Victoria, from Friday 15 – Sunday 17 March 2019.
“Montague has been a long-time supporter of Foodbank’s work and The Hunger Ride presents a great opportunity to extend that support,” says our Managing Director Ray Montague.
“Millions of Aussie apple lovers have embraced the great taste of JAZZ™, including through Foodbank’s work in the community and in schools, and we’ll make sure all the teams taking part in The Hunger Ride can re-energise with a JAZZ™ Apple and be at their best for what I’ve heard is a pretty gruelling ride!”
